March Fun Holidays Challenge#1 with Scrapbookaholic by Abby

"Families are like old quilts...Although they tend to

unravel at times each can be stitched back together with love."

Welcome to the very 1st Scrapbookaholic By Abby Challenges. Abby will be having these challenges every 2 weeks and the themes are going to be so much fun. This weeks Challenge #1 theme is "Pick Your Own Holiday". You can visit the website http://www.holidayinsights.com/moreholidays/march.htm or if you find another National Celebration in March you can use it also. Make sure to mention your project post, what day and what celebration it is and most important go Scrapbookaholic By Abby to link up to MrLinky's.

Do you ever go to the fabric departments at your local craft stores and see all of the beautiful fabrics. I do and think oh if I only have the the time to make a quilt. I love quilts, I have them everywhere in my house and in my RV. I have photos of them and home decor that incorporate them. So when Scrapbooking by Abby asked us to pick a holiday to celebrate of course my first thought was "Quilting Day". Did you know that quilting started by women just taking leftover pieces of fabrics, not carrying about color or coordination and just cutting and sewing those pieces together to form blankets to keep warm by.
Quilting Day is celebrated on the 3rd Sat of March and it began in 1991 by the National Quilting Association. This year it will be celebrated on March 19th so start looking in your local area and try to attend a quilt show, you would be surprised by the amazing quilts and other projects you will see.
Here is the project I made for Quilting Day. I started with a 12"X12" Black Frame, a piece of 12"x12" white card stock and 5 different pieces of the Cosmo Cricket Fat Free, Sugar Free, High in Fiber Collection; Cosmo Cricket is the sponsor for Scrapbookaholic by Abby today. I also used my In Stitches, paper piercer and needle with brown embroidery floss.

I began by paper piecing my quilt squares and gluing the paper pieces to my white cardstock.

I pierced around all of the pieces after they were all placed on the white card stock and then hand stitched them with one strain of the brown embroidery floss. You can use a sewing machine to achieve the same look but I feel with the block pieces being so small it was just as easy to do it by hand though it is quite tedious.

I went to an antique store and picked up antique bobbins, spools, needle container, etc. I also used a tag from 7 Gypsies along with some of the Tim Holtz metals and Making Memories buttons.
Again, if you would like to participate in the Scrapbookaholic by Abby go to her blog and follow these rules.RULES ARE:
