Welcome to the Birthday Bash Bloggerversary of Nicole ( The Canadian Nickel Scrappin) and Meighan(Scrappin Therdeeschek) they are celebrating their one year anniversary today and tomorrow (Feb 5th and 6th) and have asked us to participate in their celebration. So if you are coming here first please start the hop at Scrappin Therdeeschek and if you have arrived here from Jill's - The Scrapoholic you are hopping in the right direction.
We were each to pick a holiday and make it into a birthday themed project. I chose Mardi Gras so let the party begin:
Welcome to My Mardi Gras Party
Celebrating with Nicole and Meighan
Every party has to have a cake and decorations so enjoy my table setting with all of the party favors that go with Mardi Gras.Celebrating with Nicole and Meighan
But first I have to send out a Happy Birthday Card to my friends Nicole and Meighan.
Mardi Gras is celebrated 47 days before Easter. Mardi Gras means "Fat Tuesday" and of course is celebrated on that day of the week.
Mardi Gras came to New Orleans through its French heritage in 1699. Early explorers celebrated this French Holiday on the banks of the Mississippi River. Throughout the years however New Orleans has added to the celebration.
The official colors for Mardi Gras is Purple:represents Justice, Green:represents Faith and Gold: stands for Power. The colors were chosen by the King of the Carnival in 1873 and have stood as the colors since then. So that is a little history of Mardi Gras, I know I learned a lot since I have never been to Mardi Gras.
Now.... On to my projects, first my card.
To begin with I drew my mask out by hand, so if you are at all interested in the pattern you will have to contact me via email at pammejo1@yahoo.com.
I then took my glitter paper and cut all of my pieces out.
Once I had them all cut out and laid on to a piece of white cardstock that I used as my base. I started gluing it together.
I decided to add some thin twine to the pieces after I got them all glued into place to give it definition.
I took a piece of 1/16" strip of the "Ginger" Circa 1934 paper and made curly cues and then cut and glue them into place.
As you can see it was quite tedious work, but yet I believe well worth it.
I did an accordion fold strip from the "Ginger" paper and glue it around my I Top Brads that I made and again added some of my curly cues.

I colored my checks in with a V 17 Copic Marker to make the plaids pop out a little. I also added some of my purple fussy ribbon around the brads as well as on the mask.
Supplies:
Gold, Purple, Green Glitter Paper
Supplies:
Gold, Purple, Green Glitter Paper
Gold, Purple, Green Multi Gemstones
Cosmo Cricket Circa 1934 Ginger Paper
Purple Fussy Ribbon
Glossy Accent
I Top Tool

Med Brad
1 1/2 Round Circle
SRM Happy Birthday Sticker
2 sm jingle bells
Black Card Stock
V17 Copic Marker

At the top of the mask I did some accordian folded paper from the left over "Ginger" paper by Cosmo Cricket and used two way tape to adhere it. I had some really sparkly purple ribbon and ric rack so I added that also to give it a finished look.
At Hobby Lobby they had some black feathers, of course you have to have feathers for Mardi Gras so I added them and made another of these fabulous accordian folded flowers using my Martha Stewart Scoreboard and I top.
I made a King Cake because every Mardi Gras you have to have a King Cake. So grab a cup of coffee and something sweet to eat and enjoy your next stop on the hop with Jess at KinderStampO.
And remember if you get the piece with the baby you are the one making the cake and having the party next year. Have a fabulous celebration with Nicole and Meighan as you continue the hop.
